Sophomore forward Tricia Walsh (Amelia, Ohio) notched the first hat trick of her career and four other players scored as the Hanover College women’s soccer team defeated Spalding University (Ky.). 7-0. The match was held Saturday, Sept. 22 at L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex.
Walsh began her scoring barrage early, sinking a Paige Byers (Noblesville, Ind.) cross just 3:34 into the match.
Despite recording 10 shots on goal, the Panther offense stalled for the rest of the period, entering the second period with a narrow 1-0 lead.
Just as in the first half, Walsh quickly found the net, out-racing the defense to score four minutes into the second period.
Walsh’s final goal played a Spalding deflection just out of the reach of the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper Monica Ross early in the 56th minute.
Less than a minute later, freshman midfielder Jennie Schmaltz (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed classmate Autry Graham’s (Versailles, Ky.) cross past the keeper for the first goal of her career.
Senior Jennie Dumaine (California, Ky.) and sophomore Erin Hancock (Amelia, Ohio) put the game out of reach, both scoring before the 70th minute.
Loran Wilson (Danville, Ky.) converted an Anne-Spicer Adams (Midway, Ky.) assist to tally the seventh and final goal of the match.
Senior goalkeeper Bethan Hancock (Lexington, Ky.) earned the lone save and win for the Panthers, while sharing the goal with freshman Morgan Cole (Mason, Ohio).
Hanover enjoyed a 13-1 corner kick advantage and outshot Spalding, 31-2.
The win improves the Panther record to 6-2, while Spalding moves to 6-2.
