My name is Guyu Ye. I’m an international student from China and currently a sophomore at Hanover. I like to read and I enjoy all sorts of cultural activities. I’m a calligrapher and I also play a traditional Chinese instrument named Erhu. This year, I started a band with violin, harp, erhu (Chinese violin) and guzheng (Chinese harp). We played for a lot of events to spread the feeling of harmony within the mixture of different cultures.
Time flies; I’m almost a junior now! I think have grown up a lot after coming to Hanover, and experienced a lot of things that I had never thought about before. I have to say that it is Hanover that gives me the knowledge and confidence to try new things and explore the world.

What do you love about Hanover?
The thing that I love most about Hanover is that it is such a small and personal school that everyone knows about each other. Professors are always willing and able to make appointments with students to talk about academics and life, and students are very creative and friendly.

I originally hail from the small town of Larteh, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. I had never planned to pursue my academic dreams in a foreign country, but I guess plans changed. Arriving at JFK with one bag and one purpose (to be a rounded academic and a true leader), I admit I was oblivious to what a college education in the United States would bring. But I must say I have greatly enjoyed my time at Hanover College thus far. Once here, it didn’t take me long to figure out it was a perfect fit. People here are very nice, and it often reminds of the friendly nature of Ghanaian people.
I’m going to be a junior next year, boy time does fly. I sometimes feel nostalgic that I would be soon graduating and leaving such a great family of people. I am trying new things, and I am making the best of my remaining years. I am confident that by 2013 I would have achieved all that there is to achieve.

Minor: Mathematics

Why chose Hanover?
First, it was a beautiful campus. Second, there were about 77 students in my high school graduating class, so I was very used to a small-school setting – it would help me make close friends. Also, I could concentrate on my studies without having to worry about the many distractions of a large institution.
What do you love about Hanover?
It is a safe, healthy and stimulating campus. Everyone is willing to help in any way possible, right from the president, faculty and staff to the students. Professors, especially, are very friendly and take a huge interest in your college career! It’s an amazing feeling to know you are surrounded by people who take a genuine interest in your academic efforts.

Why chose Hanover?
Honestly, I chose Hanover without even visiting it because I really wanted to go to a small school where everyone knew everyone and because it looked pretty in the pictures. I knew this was the place I wanted to be in for the next four years of my life based on the people who were so helpful with all the information I needed while I was making my decision. I loved the beautiful campus and was amazed by how much it had to offer to you.
What do you love about Hanover?
I love the fact that it is a small school where the teacher notices your presence/absence in class and will make sure you know what is going on in the class. The professors are very helpful and always willing to help you when you go to them for help. I know I am safe here even if I live so far away from home and I know there are people I can count on when I miss home. Being involved in different activities, I have met so many amazing people and learnt so much from them while I am evolving to a better/confident person. I know I can call it home now, because I have been here for almost three years and I feel like I belong here.
Favorite Hanover moments:
Moments spent with amazing friends I have met here, despite all the cultural differences we have, would have to be my favorite moments for sure. I absolutely love being a Peer Advisor and helping the incoming class adjust to the college life. That would have to be one of the best times I have had at Hanover, i.e. interacting with my advisees and being a friend/mentor to them.
What do you want to be in the future?
I want to teach Chemistry in a college level.

My name is Jan-Niklas Reisser. I am 21 years old and from Nuremberg, Germany. I was an exchange student from 2007 to 2008 in the United States, and was placed in Madison, Indiana, Hanover’s neighbor town. I went to Madison Consolidated High School, and I can say that after I got used to the work level and the way the school system worked, I had such a great time. I literally did not want to go back, but I had to in order to finish high school in Germany. Additionally I fell in love with southern Indiana, or as everybody calls it, Kentukiana. The surrounding areas are extremely beautiful, especially the area where Hanover College located; next to the astonishing Clifty Falls State Park. Hanover is up on a hill overlooking the Ohio River, right in the middle of nature. I am of the opinion that a beautiful campus influences students in a good way, and motivates them to do their best. I also like that Hanover is in a triangle of Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Louisville, which means all these cities are easily accessible from Hanover. The campus has great facilities: a library, an awesome gym, a football field, a track field and more. The best thing is that everything is within walking distance, not like other universities where you have to take the car or bus. Hanover’s apartments and dorms are really well built, and they ensure a comfortable feeling, too.
Above all, I choose Hanover because of its great reputation. To be one of US News and World Report’s top 100 Liberal Arts Colleges is an extraordinary achievement. Being Indiana’s oldest private College, founded in 1827, just tells me more about how much Hanover has achieved over the years. I always wanted to go to a private college, because I went to a private high school for a couple of years, and I loved it there. The education and the way private schools take care of the students is much better than at an impersonal public school. I dislike huge classes. I work much better in small classes, which we have at Hanover. I am a student with lots of questions, and here I am able to submit them to my professors, something I believe is more possible at Hanover, but not at a public university. Familiarity also helps me tremendously to reach my education goals, and graduate successfully from Hanover.
I am interested in Business. I am very fascinated by my father’s work and can imagine doing something like he does. Hanover has an excellent Business program and this helped ensure that Hanover was right for me. I am also minoring in economics. The subject I am majoring in is Physics. I have always been interested in Physics. I have taken some difficult classes and have done well in them. I spend a lot of my time thinking about Physics. Hanover is the perfect place for me to combine all of these three interests. I believe that with a degree from Hanover, I would not have any problem finding a good job back in Germany. Anyone can have a degree from a University, but to have a degree from an American prestigious college is a privilege that will hopefully guarantee a good job.
Hanover also has an amazing Greek life. I am a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and I have had the best moments so far at Hanover College with my brothers. Greek life is hard to explain, one needs to experience it for themselves. However, I do highly recommend everyone try out greek life because so far it has been a huge part of my college career. I have found so many friends in my fraternity, who made my time here in Hanover extraordinary. Those friends will be always there for me like true brothers.
I am also playing golf for the Hanover Panthers. I have enjoyed this season so much by playing the sport I love on such a competitive level. Especially I loved the trip down to Florida to practice before the season began. Hanover gives student athletes the opportunity to execute your favorite sport under almost professional training conditions.

How has Hanover prepared you for your future:
Hanover has prepared me for my career and future in a very strong way. Hanover’s rigorous academic and activity requirements have helped me to develop a strong work ethic. This ethic is ingrained in my daily work culture. I have worked for companies in different countries and industries, and every time I enter a meeting, or have to give a presentation, I remember all my key skills that I learnt from the classes at Hanover.
In today’s work and job environment, there are many analytical thinkers and strategic minded individuals. The competition today is who has the edge beyond the traditional skill sets? Who can see the larger picture and yet focus on the micro details to execute a strategy? Hanover with its strong liberal arts foundation has made me a well-rounded and global individual.
Hanover has prepared me for my future, and I am proud to be a Hanoverian.

The wonderful four years at Hanover College inspired me to pursue a career as an Economics professor. I have obtained full assistantship and fellowship to attend the PhD program in Economics at Indiana University, Bloomington.
