Art Scholarships

Studio Art scholarships are available for participation in one studio art course and one community art service project a year.

Eligibility
Scholarships awarded to selected studio art majors and non-majors are renewed based on accomplishment in the studio art program as determined by the studio art faculty.

Portfolio Reviews
The application for admission serves as the application for studio art scholarships. Interviews take place during the annual Studio Art Scholarship Portfolio Review Days on the Hanover College campus, planned and coordinated each year by the Studio Art Department.

Stipends
All Studio Art scholarship awards range from $500 to $3,500 and are renewable each year at the discretion of the studio art faculty based on accomplishment and end-of-year evaluation.

Portfolio Requirements
Candidates must bring with them to the Review Session a recommendation letter from their art instructor and a portfolio of original works of art. Portfolio Reviews are held at the Lynn Center for Fine Arts at Hanover College. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their creative works in the context of interdisciplinary influences.

February 1 & 2 and March 15 and 16.

Requirements
The Art Scholarship will be renewed for three additional years based on meeting the following criteria as determined by the faculty:

  • Take one studio course per year. You are to be a leader in this course during critiques and in-class and out of class work time. A final grade of “B” in this course is required to maintain your scholarship.
  • Be an active member of the Art Club and attend at least four club meetings per year.
  • Participate in two Admission activities per year such as “At a Glance” or the “Art Scholarship Portfolio Review.”
  • Every year, participate in the Campus Community to help foster a creative atmosphere:
    • Freshman will work for the Greiner Art Gallery and Archives of Duggan Library to educate visitors on the art exhibited in these two areas. Additionally, they will help organize and execute student exhibitions such as "The Greiner Purchase Award Competition" and "The Student Art Auction."
    • Sophomores, juniors, and seniors will work on two campus creative activities per year in connection with the Art Club.

Music Scholarships

Music majors and non-majors are eligible for the scholarships in the amount of $500 - $3,500. Band, orchestral instruments, voice and piano scholarships are available through the Hanover College Music Department. Auditions are held during annual Music Scholarship Audition days. Scholarships are renewable each year at the discretion of the music faculty, based on accomplishment and end-of-year evaluation.

Theatre Scholarships

Theatre Scholarships are available through the Hanover College Theatre Department. Scholarships, in the amount of $500 - $3,500, are available to all new Hanover College students who intend to participate in any area of theatre, regardless of major. Requirements for consideration include a 20 minute appointment with a theatre faculty member during the annual Theatre Audition days. Interview/Audition Portfolio requirements can be found on the theatre scholarship page. Scholarships are renewable each year based on theatre participation and faculty recommendation.
